| Servicing your bike will prolong the lifetime of its components and also make for a more enjoyable ride, usually eliminating those annoying squeaks and creaks. A basic service costing just £20 consists of the following procedures. The rear wheel is removed and the freewheel sprockets are cleared of built up grime. The hub is checked for play and tightened, if necessary. The wheel rims are cleaned,spoke heads lubricated and tyres checked for wear. Quick release skewers are greased. The rear derailier jockey wheels are removed, cleared of grime and pivot joints oiled. The rear triangle is cleaned. The rear brake is centred and cables checked for wear, routing and pulled through if required. Brake arms cleaned and pivot joints lubricated. Brake pads checked for wear. The rear wheel is put back, trued and brake pads adjusted for correct alignment. Front and rear gears are checked for correct indexing and limiting screws adjusted if necessary. Cables are checked for correct routing and corrosion. Saddle and seatpost checked for movement and re-positioned if required. Headset checked for play and adjusted if necessary. Front wheel removed and hub cleaned and checked for play. Rims cleaned and spoke heads lubricated. Tyres checked for excessive wear. Forks and headtube cleaned. Front brake centred, cables checked for wear, routing and pulled through if necessary. Brake arms cleaned and pivot joints oiled. Brake pads checked for wear. Quick release skewer greased. The front wheel is placed back on the bike and brake pads re-positioned for correct alignment. Wheel trued. Pedals oiled. Frame cleaned. Voilla! |  | |
